Hoof trimming is an important routine activity in goat management because continuously growing hooves can become overgrown, distorted, or damaged. Overgrown hooves may make walking difficult and can contribute to abnormal posture, injuries, and foot-related problems. Goats kept on soft ground or in confined housing may require more frequent inspection and trimming.
Hooves should be checked regularly and trimmed carefully using clean, suitable hoof-trimming equipment. Only excessive growth should be removed, and care should be taken not to cut into sensitive tissue. Regular hoof inspection also provides an opportunity to identify swelling, foul smell, cracks, injuries, or other signs that may require veterinary attention.
