The scope of goat farming extends beyond the sale of live animals. A goat enterprise can generate income through meat production, milk, breeding stock, manure, processed products, and genetic improvement services. The appropriate combination depends on breed characteristics, available resources, consumer demand, infrastructure, and the farmer’s production objectives.
There is also scope for improving traditional goat production through better breeding, scientific feeding, disease prevention, record keeping, organised marketing, and value addition. Farmers may choose small-scale, semi-intensive, intensive, or integrated production systems depending on land availability, labour, capital, and local conditions.
