Artificial insemination is the process of transfer of semen from male reproductive organ to the female reproductive organ. As the name depict it is completely artificial and unlike the natural process.
In this process the sperm cells is collected from the male goat “buck”, the semen first kept for freezing and frozen semen is defrosted and inserted into the reproductive track of female goat “doe” for fertilization and generation of first cell of next generation. First Artificially inseminated kid was born on May 6, 1995.

Advantages of Artificial Insemination

• Cost: Artificial insemination is much expensive than Natural Breeding. And the owner can also avoid the cost of housing and feeding a buck.
  
• Variety: Straws are available from many high quality bucks. It’s possible to quickly improve the quantity of your herd using such resources.

Disadvantages of Artificial Insemination.

• Timing is critical: The best time to AI a doe is right at the end of the heat cycle. Defrosted semen remains viable at most a few hours and is usually immediately after defrosting. Therefore, it’s important to know exactly when the doe went into heat and how long she remains in heat to be successful.
  
• Cost: The initial cost of the equipment can be high. The most expensive equipment is a tank to store liquid nitrogen. The tank is filled with liquid nitrogen, and this must be repeated every 2-4 months as the liquid nitrogen evaporates.
