Kidding is the process of giving birth in goats and is an important stage of goat production. As kidding approaches, the doe may show signs such as restlessness, enlargement of the udder, relaxation around the tail area, separation from the herd, and appearance of mucus. A clean, dry, well-bedded kidding area should be prepared before the expected date.
During kidding, unnecessary disturbance should be avoided, but the doe should be monitored regularly. If the delivery appears difficult or prolonged, veterinary assistance should be obtained. After birth, the kid and doe should be checked carefully, and the newborn should receive colostrum as soon as possible because it provides essential antibodies and nutrients for early protection and development.
